Cape Towner and free surfer Mikey February is widely recognized for his dynamic, fluid style, which radiates a sense of creative freedom that has been cultivated largely outside the confines of the world tour. Though February competed from a young age, he has since found an alternative pathway for his career—one in which self-worth and free expression go hand in hand. The recent father and co-founder of the South Africa-based charity JUJU Surf Club sits down with Jamie Brisick to talk about music, what it means to be a professional surfer, finding creative freedom, and the value of understanding waves through the lens of their cultural contexts.
